The Court Company Specifications for Racquetball Courts

PART 1 - GENERAL
1.01 SCOPE:
Provide prefabricated, racquetball courts complete, including but not limited to the following:
 
A. Wood wall and ceiling panels
B. Steel or wood support framing
C. Wood floor
D. Glass walls
E. Light fixtures
F. Accessories
G. Shop drawings and samples
   
1.02 RELATED WORK SPECIFIED ELSEWHERE - WORK NOT INCLUDED.
 
A. HVAC components
B. Leveling of slab
C. Electrical wiring and hook-up to light fixtures
D. Drywall or other interior court finishes
   
1.03 QUALITY ASSURANCE:
For purposes of establishing quality requirements, these specifications are based upon The Court Company panel system as supplied by:

Consideration will be given by the Architect to other systems, if in their opinion, they are of equal quality. Submit information on projects for approval at least ten days prior to bid date.
   
1.04 SUBMITTALS:
 
A. Shop drawings: Submit required number of sets for review.
B. Samples: Submit sample of wall panel and floor.
   
1.05 PRODUCT DELIVERY STORAGE AND HANDLING:
 
A. Cover and protect material in transit and at site. Material not properly protected and stored and which is damaged or defaced during construction shall be rejected.
B. No components or materials shall be delivered to the project site until building is completely enclosed and weather tight. The temperature and humidity must be maintained in proper accordance with manufacturer's recommendations. Materials and components shall be stored in spaces provided by the General Contractor. Store materials and components neatly, properly stacked and covered with plastic.
   
1.06 COORDINATION:
 
A. Samples: Submit samples of wall panels.
B. Brochures: Submit three copies of supplier's brochures.
C. Shop drawings: Submit in accordance with pans and specifications.
   
1.07 WARRANTY:
The racquetball manufacturer shall warrant all materials and workmanship in conjunction with racquetball courts against defects for ten (10) years after the installation. Should any defects occur in either workmanship or materials, the subcontractor shall, within 48 hours of written notice from the owner, proceed with corrective action to remedy any defects in materials and/or workmanship that may develop after substantial completion of the project. All remedial action shall be done without cost to the owner.

PART 2 - PRODUCTS
2.01 PANELS: Tongue and groove panels system.
 
A. Thickness: Front wall panels to be 1-1/8" thick, 55# density; side/sear wall panels to be 7/8" thick; ceiling panels to be 5/8" thick.
B. Dimensions: Panel sheets shall be 4'0" x 8'0" and 4'0' x 4'0" and installed in a staggered configuration.
C. Surface: High pressure laminate with velvet textured finish .050" thickness with an average density of 85#/cf. Back surface is .050" standard plastic laminate backer sheet.
D. Core: Industrial grade high density particle board of nominal 55#/cf density conforming to Commercial Standards (CS236-66).
E. Attach panels to steel stud system with screws and heavy bodied structural adhesive.
   
2.02 STEEL FRAMING:
 
A. Front walls - 4"or 6" x 18 gauge metal "C" studs, 12" o.c. with deep leg track.
B. Back walls - 4" or 6" x 18 gauge metal "C" studs, 16" o.c. with deep leg track.
C. Side walls - 4" or 6" x 18 gauge metal "C" studs, 16" o.c. with deep leg track.
D. Common walls - 6" x 18 gauge metal "C" studs, 16" o.c. with deep track.
E. Ceiling joists - 6" x 16 gauge metal "C" studs, 16" o.c.
F. Batt insulation: Preformed glass fiber batt, friction fit type with paper facing covering one side, flame spread out 25 or less, thickness to match steel stud depth. Install where specified on plans.
   
2.03 FLOORS:
 
A. Concrete sub-floor shall be furnished to the racquetball court subcontractor broom-clean and finished smooth, straight and level to where minimum tolerance is ± 1/8" to ten (10) foot radius. All leveling to be done by General Contractor.
B. Wood floors shall be installed according to their recommended procedures. Floors are to be solid throughout to provide a uniform bounce of the ball and to have color variations in the wood.
C. Flooring materials
1. Flat grain 25/32" by 2¼" northern hard rock maple, tongue and grooved, grade 2 MFMA.
2. 2 x 3 sleepers with 3/8" rubber pads attached or 2 layers of ½" CDX plywood with 3/8" rubber pads.
3. ½" gap left between side walls and floors.
D. Seal and finish coats applied per manufacturer's requirements.
E. Game lines: Painting game lines of required color and widths.
   
2.04 GLASS: Glass manufacturer to be CRS Glass Products or equal.
 
A. Glass shall be fully tempered ½" thick tempered safety glass manufactured in a horizontal process. The tempered glass shall meet at the time of installation, quality and strength requirements of Federal Specification DD-G-451 and DD-G-1403. All edges shall be polished.
B. Fittings
1. Glass connection fittings shall be of extruded aluminum, standard white. Other colors available upon request.
2. Base angle brackets are made of structural aluminum, size 11½" x 2½" x 2½" x ¼".
3. Anchor bolts are ½" x 3¾".
4. Fasteners through glass are made of steel.
5. Countersinks in glass are made of nylon; standard white in color.
6. Aluminum channels are 1" x 1" x 1/8"; standard white in color.
7. Aluminum angles are 2½" x 3" x 1/8"; standard white in color.
C. Door hardware: door shall be locked by means of a positive locking system with a knob set on the exterior and flush pull ring on the interior. Lock housing to be a standard powder-coated white finish. Side mounted hinge to be used on all wall installations.
D. Sealants: all silicone shall be a clear, high module, acetoxy construction grade silicone. GE-1200 or equivalent.
E. Markings: rear walls to have a permanent marking of lines, painted white, being 1" o.c., 30" high, 1/8" wide.
   
2.05 LIGHTS:
2x4 Fluorescent lights manufactured by HE Williams or equal (10 per court).
2x2 Metal halide light fixtures manufactured by Esco or equal (6 per court).
   
2.05 ACCESSORIES:
 
A. Valuables storage compartments (Goody Boxes) as manufactured by Stratford Enterprises. Included if specified on plans. Provide one per court.
B. Wood doors to be full height as manufactured by Stratford Enterprises, using a piano-type hinge. Soss hinges are not acceptable. Glass doors available upon request.
C. Wallyball kits are manufactured by Carron Net Company. Includes fasteners, net and ball. Included if specified on plans.

PART 3 - EXECUTION
3.01 PREPARATORY WORK:
 
A. Installation of racquetball courts shall not be made when the building is especially cold and damp or hot and dry. Temperature and humidity shall be maintained during storage, installation and thereafter as follows: Temperature range is 65° to 78° and humidity to be controlled between 40% and 60% at all times.
B. Cover and protect all materials from damage by the weather or otherwise and exercise all precautions to save the same from injury. Take proper precautions to protect all finished surfaces over which or against which racquetball courts must be installed. The repair or replacement of any damaged finished surfaces caused by the delivery and installation of the work included in this section shall be paid by the subcontractor.
   
3.02 INSTALLATION:
Install racquetball courts complete in locations shown on the drawings. Racquetball courts shall be installed by qualified and authorized personnel of the manufacturer making certain courts are plumb, level and square.
   
3.03 CLEAN-UP:
Clean up all debris caused by the work of this section, keeping the premises clean and neat at all times.
